“In the spirit of the works of Paul Klee and Alexander Calder, the carpets have a playful, “primitive” quality which is a deliberate departure from the obedient, the orderly and the expected. The patterns of these pieces are inspired by pods, seeds, stalks and other organic forms, from macro to micro, which I obsessively gather and examine. I seek out objects which are discarded or mundane, because these often communicate unexpected poetic beauty. My design method involves the translation of these forms into patterns which are further transformed by the knotting process. I see color as having a metaphorical capacity to reference culture and nature indirectly, but with powerful effect. In reference to furniture, I love creating a pleasurable tension between patterns and objects, in a relationship which is both harmonious and dissonant.”
